There's nobody quite like Johnny Dowd, a dapper Texan absurdist offering deadpan, lyrical opinion on alcohol, the differences between men and women, murder and doomed sinners. But don't be thinking this is an old chap with a guitar singing greatest folk-country hits, this mother and his band ROCKS (check out the YouTube link of Miracles Never Happen). Not unlike Charles Bukowski backed by a garage-jazz-country funk shuffle and quite brilliant. Latest album A Drunkard's Masterpiece "is a creative car crash of Americana, beatnik rock, poetry, prose, jazz rock, rap, screaming metal guitar, retro pop, spoken word and country noir." - Sylvia Simmons (MOJO). Utterly noir-ishly lazily non-bullshittingly unique; Waits and Cave can't even come close.
