California-raised in the early 50s on a diet of West Coast hillbilly (Merle Travis, Tex Williams, The Collins Kids), Tom stole his brother's guitar and set about Buck Owens and Merle Haggard in Vancouver's skid row bars before moving to Texas in '73 - and subsequently quitting for six years. Persuaded to return by Andrew Hardin and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, he toured with and produced for artists such as Katy Moffat and Barrence Whitfield. Since then, this all-round good guy, straight outta the wild wild west, has had his songs covered by Johnny Cash. Joe Ely, Nanci Griffith and Peter Sahm amongst many. A gen-you-whine USA legend, dabbling in spoken word, painting and documentary making - his sets are scattered with tales from Charles Bukowski, American childhoods and the beat generation. A maverick. A genius. And a bloody big hat.
