Peter Perrett lives inside his songs.  They may be 30-years-old and influenced Nirvana, Blur and The Libertines, but they're as relevant as ever. 2007's reunion was one of the most unlikely events in recent rock history but the sight of an incredibly frail, yet strangely youthful looking Perrett spitting out heart-wrenching lyrics with great passion and venomous fury moved grown men to tears, as John Perry sliced away at his guitar, whacking and tossing it around, coaxing those tortured and shocked sounds. And the songs. Oh, those songs. Why Don't You Kill Yourself, Even Flowers Die, No Peace For The Wicked and of course, legendary post-punk anthem Another Girl Another Planet, arguably the greatest rock single ever recorded. Anyone for existential doom and despair infused with sordid beauty and dry humour? The Only Ones, then. Unarguably seminal, essential and, thank The Lord, still here.
